Sports Injuries

Sports are a great part of life. They are social activities that keep our minds and bodies exercised as well as being a lot of fun. A sports injury can be slight, where one can just “walk it off”, but what happens when it is not so slight? You need to have the injury inspected by the doctor. Don’t just take a pill to numb the pain. Not feeling the pain does not equal the injury or damage to that body part, being gone.
We all know at least one person that has “an old football injury” or “trick knee” or “never been the same” type of injury from playing the sport they love. Continue with the sports, teams, games you love to play, and take care of yourself at the same time.
Pain isn’t the only “pain”. Recovery can also be a slow and sometimes painful process. Particularly when the damage is so severe that surgery has been required. It is especially sad when the surgery could have been prevented merely by a doctor’s visit or a program of care designed to address the issue before time worsens it. Better yet is to have regular care such as with chiropractic, rather than wait for an injury to develop and then see your doctor. Being in top physical shape is accomplished by regular physical exercise, eating nutritiously, keeping a good mood and healthy outlook on life, as well as seeing a practitioner such as a chiropractor or wellness physician regularly.

General Family Care

It is important to visit your doctor regularly for yourself and your family as well. This is a wise precautionary measure to assure long lasting health. A doctor’s visit can catch early warning signs and correct them before the condition worsens. People’s lives have been saved due to this simple task. Along with eating well, getting plenty of exercise, keeping in good spirits, etc, visiting the doctor periodically for a check-up is a smart thing to do. Just like visiting the dentist is recommended twice per year. You may be lucky and find that nothing is going on, but why take that chance? Know that you are well and healthy and have it validated by a trip to the doctor. We all want a long healthy and happy existence for ourselves and our loved ones, and general family care is one of the ways to accomplish this important goal.

Pain

At one time or another, we have all experienced pain. What you do with that can paint the picture of what your future may hold. If for example you have chronic pain of some sort and do not address it, then of course the condition causing the pain in the first place, is left unchecked, and so will continue to worsen through time.
It is the same when there is a warning sign that something is wrong with your car. If left uncorrected, the condition degrades until you are forced to address it due to a safety or usage issue. Often times by this point it requires more time and more money, of course. If left uncorrected long enough, the vehicle can become totally undrivable. This is not something you want to have occur with your body. After all, you live in your body, it is not replaceable. Remember pain is a warning sign. Nature is letting you know that something is going on that is not good and should require immediate action particularly if it is already chronic or long term.

Numbing and Tingling Sensations

Numbing and Tingling is the sensation of “pins and needles”, body part “falling asleep”, or total lack of feeling. These are serious symptoms. Pain is a warning sign that something is wrong and demands immediate attention before the condition worsens. Pain however is a grade above Numbing and Tingling as with pain there is at least still sensation. By the time the sensation degrades to Numbing and Tingling, you are now losing the ability to feel, which of course is more dangerous and thus more severe.
This is particularly true when it comes to hands for example, as your hands are the part of the body specifically designed for the purpose of touching. If you lose the ability to use your hands, it affects function, dexterity, ability to perform even the simplest of tasks, and even one’s ability to work at their jobs, drive, cook, handle their small children, etc.
When it is in the feet, then it is obvious that one’s ability to walk is greatly affected. None of these are good. Numbing and Tingling need to be taken up immediately and a course of treatment worked out to address this very serious issue.
There are no drugs in existence that return the ability to perceive sensation. This must be dealt with in a physical approach, such as with Chiropractic, Physical Therapy, Rehab, etc.

Rehab

Rehab is the short for “rehabilitation.” Medically, it refers to various treatments designed to help patients physically recover or cope with injuries, accidents, disabilities and even recover from surgery. This can take weeks or months depending on the situation. It may even have to be taken up daily, as a routine. It is not necessarily a fast solution, but a very necessary part of recovery.
Those with muscular difficulties for example have had tremendous success when their doctor has paired rehab to their initial program. Its effectiveness is what makes it so popular.
Some rehab programs allow for home care. Some must be done within a physician’s facility, to be done with assistance or under supervision. Also, at times, possibly incorporating exercise style machinery to aid recovery. It can also be prescribed as a combination of home stretches/exercises, as well as being done in the doctor’s office.

Physical Therapy

Many know that Physical Therapy is a tool you can use to recover from pain and injury. Some think it is only for severe cases. This is not so. Physical Therapy can be used on a preventative basis to help heal and strengthen the body when there is acute pain. Getting treatment sooner, rather than later, is beneficial in that you can address and handle the pain before it becomes chronic. Halting your pain’s progression can prevent the need for costly treatment and, in some cases, surgery later on down the line.

Is Chiropractic safe for Children?

Yes it is. In fact, Chiropractic can be used safely both on pregnant women and infants. Birth is rough on both mothers and babies alike. Spinal injuries and traumas (such as torticollis- when the neck is twisted, causing the head to be tipped to one side) are often caused during the birth process. Chiropractic techniques can be applied gently enough for even the newborn.
Chiropractic has been proven to help clear up common ailments among babies, such as colic, croup, etc. Childhood is filled with bumps and spills along the way. The good news is Chiropractic is here to handle the subluxations and their resulting symptoms. The better news is that children respond quicker than adults to Chiropractic treatments and so a little time spent now will save you time and money in the future.
